On October 23, 2015, Wilson Health delivered their 10,000th baby at the Copeland Emerson Family Birth Center. At 7:34 p.m., baby girl Eva Epigmenio, was born into the world to parents, Sierra Hutchins and Jose Epigmenio, of Sidney.
Shortly after delivery, baby Eva was transferred to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she spent the next 8 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
“It was really hard to see my daughter leave Wilson Health’s Birth Center knowing that I wasn’t going to be able to be with her for a few more days due to my C-section,” Hutchins said. “I knew both of us were in good hands, but it was very emotional not being able to hold her for the first time.”
Jana Schnippel, director of the Copeland-Emerson Family Birth Center, kept in contact with Hutchins over the 8 week period checking in with her and getting updates on baby Eva’s condition. After learning of Eva’s plans for discharge from the hospital, Schnippel quickly began planning behind the scenes to have an “official” celebration for the family upon their return home to Sidney.
“I made a special connection with Sierra and her family,” Schnippel said. “I wanted them to know how special they are and even though it is eight weeks later, we still wanted to celebrate this special occasion with our patients, the family and our staff.”
On December 17, 2015, Hutchins and her three daughters, Myliegh (8), Abbiana (6) and eight week old Eva were welcomed back to the birth center to celebrate and recognize baby number 10,000. Lisa Merrit, Emerson Climate Technologies, joined the celebration and presented Hutchins with a special gift which included a one year supply of diapers.
“We are honored to celebrate this milestone for both Emerson Climate Technologies and Wilson Health,” said Merrit. “In 2003, we were opening the doors to a brand new birthing center for our community and here we are today celebrating the 10,000th delivery.”
Dr. Cecilia Banga, Wilson Health Medical Group Ob/Gyn, was the physician who delivered Wilson Health’s 10,000 baby. Dr. Banga was reunited with Hutchins and baby Eva during the celebration event.
Hutchins also received a complimentary full year milestone photography package from Picture Perfect Babies Photography, a $50.00 Visa gift card from Moeller Door and Windows, a $25.00 gift certificate from Rachel’s Cakes, a complimentary catered dinner from the Wilson Health Café and a variety of items for the mother and baby from Wilson Health’s Sweet Beginnings Boutique.
