The medical staff of Wilson Health announces its eighth annual Physician Memorial Scholarship. Established following the death of Bruce C. Urbanc, D.O., in 2008, the Physician Memorial Scholarship is a joint effort of the Wilson Health medical staff and Wilson Health. Applications are available by contacting the Human Resources Department, 498-5505 or the Wilson Health website. Applications should be turned in by Friday, June 3.
“The Physician Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a fully accredited school of medicine or osteopathic medicine in the continental U.S.,” said Robert McDevitt, M.D., Wilson’s chief of staff. “Awards will be made to outstanding students who have demonstrated academic excellence and who show definite need.”
Applicants must be graduates of a Shelby County high school. “We will award up to $2,000 to the chosen applicant,” Dr. McDevitt explained. A sub-committee of the Medical Staff Executive Committee will make the final decision.
“The Physician Memorial Scholarship was initiated in memory of Bruce C. Urbanc, D.O.,” said Dr. McDevitt. “It is a way to commemorate all of the physicians that have and continue to support Wilson Memorial Hospital.”
