Wilson Memorial Hospital announced that Marge Baumer, R.N., was selected as the first quarter of the 2014 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Linda Mauer, vice president of nursing, said that Baumer provides exceptional care to the hospital’s patients, and exhibits excellent care on a daily basis.
“Marge is attentive, thoughtful and professional in every aspect of her job,” said Mauer. “She brings a wealth of clinical experience and leadership skills to our hospital and we are extremely fortunate to have her on our team.”
Baumer began her career in Acute Care at Wilson Memorial Hospital in 1982 and worked at the hospital for six years before taking some time off to stay home with her children. She rejoined the Wilson team in 2001.
Baumer graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Cincinnati, in 1982.
Wilson Memorial Hospital picks a new nurse once every quarter to honor with the DAISY award.
The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, California. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little known but uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Patrick and his family received from nurses inspired this means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. Today, there are more than 1,400 healthcare facilities around the country honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.
