Tady Named Outstanding Senior Citizen Award

The Area Agency on Aging recognized Bill Tady with the County’s 2024 Outstanding Senior Citizen Award.

The recipient of this award is a county resident who has contributed time and talents for the benefit of others in the community through outreach, personal action, inspiration, public service, sports/educational efforts and civic humanitarian endeavors. Recipients display passion for helping others is evident thorough their actions and the inspiration they provide.

Tady served 23 years in the United States Navy. He has held several jobs, including school bus driver, after leaving the Navy. Tady has been an active Member of the Russia Catholic War Veterans since 1983. He has been a member of St. Remy’s Catholic Church in Russia since 1976. Tady was one of the first members of the Shelby County Medical Reserve Corps in 2004 and still active with the group today. Tady has been a blood donor to the Community Blood Center since 2004. He has donated life-saving blood more than 210 times.

Tady has been a hospice volunteer for Wilson Health Hospice since April of 1997. During his 26 years of service he has performed a variety of services including patient and family care and support, fundraising and assisting with veteran pinning’s. Tady particularly enjoys working with the veterans in the hospice program. He is always willing to go above and beyond to help others.

“Bill cares so deeply for our patients. He particularly connects with the veterans, as he is a great veteran himself,” say Joann Scott, director of Home Care and Hospice. “I’ve witnessed him take the pin off his own hat and pin it on a patient to fulfill a dying request.”

Tady also really stepped up during the pandemic. During this time, hospice was only allowed to send essential caregivers into homes and facilities. Tady turned to the Shelby County Health Department that was in need and contributed over 100 hours of community service supporting the Sidney-Shelby County Health Department Corona Virus Response.

“Bill Tady is a caring and generous person that has touched many lives in a very positive way,” states Scott. “We are honored that he still finds time to volunteer for hospice.”
