Instead of mailing Christmas cards to friends and family this year, area residents may choose to donate the money they would have spent on cards and postage to “Caring at Christmas,” an annual program that raises money for charity. This year marks the 23rd year for Caring at Christmas and Wilson Health Hospice has once again been chosen to receive the donations.
Recently, staff members of the Wilson Health Hospice team visited with patient, Neta McCorkle of Sidney. When McCorkle was diagnosed with her terminal illness she first sought active, curative care for the illness. When that care was no longer helpful, McCorkle and her husband, Corky, turned to Wilson Health Hospice for comfort and care.
“Having Wilson Health Hospice come into our home and care for my wife has been a blessing,” said Corky. “I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Neta enjoys putting puzzles together and spending time with her dog, Selene. Often times you will find Lisa Blagg, RN, and hospice volunteer, Sandy Monnin, helping McCorkle with her puzzles during their visits.
“After spending time with Neta and knowing that the Caring at Christmas program contributes directly to the care provided to this extraordinary woman and her family, is really what the program is all about,” said Blagg. “We have been able to help so many patients like Neta over the years and we can’t thank the community enough for their continual support.”
Anyone who would like to donate to Caring at Christmas may do so by mailing their donation to: Wilson Health Hospice, Attn: Cashier, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, OH, 45365. Donations may also be made at any Chase Bank branch in Sidney. Please make all checks payable to Wilson Health Hospice for tax purposes.
The community is invited to join in this circle of caring. Shortly before Christmas, an acknowledgement will appear in the Sidney Daily News listing the names of all donors that contributed to this year’s program. In order to be included in this year’s acknowledgement donations must be received by December 14.
